Michael Yardley trained as an illustrator, typographer and graphic designer before embarking on a photographic career. Initially concentrating on location work, his first studio was a large room in a Victorian house followed by a rented loft space in a disused water mill. The purchase of a redundant Methodist chapel in 1981 led to an expansion of work possibilities and the opportunity to extend the client base to cover room sets and more ambitious product and food briefs. In 2001 he moved his studio to a farm house in France where he spends a large part of the year making images.
